How historically accurate is SIX? ›

Six is based on real historical events and figures, but it does take artistic liberties in its portrayal of these characters. The musical incorporates some elements of historical fact, such as the marriages, divorces, and executions of the six queens.

Katherine Howard (or Catherine Howard) was the fifth wife of Henry VIII and one of the six queens in SIX. She was beheaded after being accused of adultery. Her solo is All You Wanna Do, which is about her life story and how, from a young age, she was taken advantage of and abused by many men in her life.

Age recommendation: 10+. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please note, SIX contains flashing lights, strobe effects, theatrical haze and loud music.

The show also ends with a song that is centered around the idea of the lives that the queens could have lived had they not married Henry, and includes lyrics such as “We're one of a kind, no category, too many years lost in his story,” and “Now I don't need your love, all I need is six.” To learn more about “Six!

The look and sound of each queen is modeled after one or more real-life pop stars, including Beyonce, Lizzo, Adelle and Avril Lavigne. Lavigne and Lily Allen, for example, were the inspirations for Lever's Anne Boleyn character, she says. “My queen is definitely the pop-punk queen.”

Is Six the musical just singing? ›

Most of the actresses cannot act or dance, they can only sing, and the choreography they are working with is very static compared to the likes of West Side Story, Moulin Rouge or most other musicals. At the same time, the set and lighting design are barely used and don't add much to their performances.

Katherine Howard was Queen of England from 1540 to 1541 due to her marriage to King Henry VIII. She was his fifth wife and was succeeded by Catherine Parr. She is currently being played by Inez Budd in the West End production of Six the Musical, and by Didi Romero in the Broadway production.

Anna of Cleves (historically Anne of Cleves) was the fourth wife of Henry VIII. Unlike the other queens, she and Henry were good friends and remained that way even after divorce. Despite Catherine Parr being known as the survivor, Anna outlived all of the other queens and Henry.

Nicks later commented that the thing that she saw herself in most was "the kind of snappy sarcasm between Daisy and Billy, who in my mind was like me and Lindsey [Buckingham]." The series is largely fictional, but this spark of reality cemented the realism in it.

Six features all six wives of Henry VIII, but this is no period drama. Their personalities and songs are modeled after contemporary pop stars. Many events in the series differ from what actually happened. The series takes liberties with character names, relationships, historical costume, physical appearance, and the timing of events. Six tries to emulate Hamilton's success by using modern musical elements and basing the story on a 'woke' and empowering retelling of history - but it simply doesn't work. As a revision on Henry VIII's wives, it fails to provide a new or fresh perspective.
