The brothers of Epsilon-Eta mourn the passing of our brother Patrick Henry Johnston, EH 1098. Approximately one year ago, Pat was diagnosed with late stage cancer and was determined from the very onset to fight. Unfortunately, the battle was too big to win outright but Pat did not stop fighting until the very end. On Monday, June 20th, Pat passed away after being surrounded by family, close friends and a number of brothers in his last days.
In memory of Pat, the active brothers of Epsilon-Eta will plant a tree in a strategic location on the RPI campus with an engraved plaque that will include his name, Zeta number and the cross and crescent. During his time at Epsilon-Eta, Pat held the position of Phi and we know it was a role he held in the highest of esteem. In recognition of his passion for the Lambda Chi Alpha ritual and the history of the fraternity, this location can be used as a stop during all future Candle Journeys.
This memorial will serve to symbolize all that Pat has done for Epsilon-Eta and signify how he was a symbol of the core values that all brothers represent. In addition it will be a place where he can be remembered for his additional impact on the Rensselaer community in his time here, especially as a member of the Rusty Pipes.
We will hold the memorial dedication and remembrance ceremony during RPI’s Reunion & Homecoming Weekend (Oct. 21 – 23). More information about the plaque dedication and remembrance ceremony will be forthcoming.
